My Wedge

By Peter Campbell

I purchased my wedge just before New Year 2001. The car had only done 500 miles in about 6 years, with 92k on the clock, so it was suffering from the usual layup problems (and some more stuff I didn't know about).

It is getting a new clutch fitted, and uprated brakes front and rear, along with a new brake master cylinder. The outriggers are rotting (see pictures with screwdriver poking thru the 'rigger), so I am getting them completely removed and new ones fabricated. I have been told by Noel that the rest of the chassis is OK, so it is not a body off job (which would have been devastating for me if it was).

The outriggers are being repaired in-situ, by cutting them out, refabricating them, then welding on the new outrigger assemblies to the spine of the chassis.

Once that is done, and after several coats of hammerite and liberal quantities of waxoyl, everything should be good as new (for the chassis anyway).

While the engine is out I am busy de-gunking and painting the chassis from inside the engine compartment and underneath. I'll keep you posted on how some of the jobs are progressing, and submit more photos if I get the chance.

Cheers,
Peter Campbell
