Wedgepages Update Under New Management As no doubt some of you are aware Mike Bressington, who compiled this fabulous site originally, has now sold his Wedge and gone and joined the ranks of the Griff boys (but for how long Mike?). For some time he had been looking to pass on the Wedgepages and I am pleased to say that, after somewhat protracted negotiations over the last few months, I have finally purchased the site outright from Mike and will be looking after it from now on, I hope I can do you, and your, cars as much justice as Mike did. The site exists for your benefit so please let me know your thoughts regarding the contents - good or bad, and I will do my best to steer the site in a suitable direction. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mike for the sterling work he has singlehandedly put into this site, it truly is a testament to his devotion to all things Wedge shaped. And no matter what direction his TVR`ing takes him in the future I`m sure he`ll still have a very soft spot for the Wedge! The site will remain pretty much as is for the short term as firstly I must learn how to drive the software - what I know about website production is about the same as I know about early wedge headlamp wiring NOT A LOT! Once I feel that I have mastered enough of the programme not to cause the whole site to crash I will set about ammending those items that are in need of updating before beginning to add any new features or articles. I will also try and get BBWF reports and pictures from 2006 & 2007 uploaded, hopefully before BBWF 2008 begins! I`ll also apologise now for any typos or formatting mistakes - its a steep learning curve but I hope that I will get better as I discover how to ammend and edit in the wonderful World of html! A Brief Wedge History It was in Blackpool in 1947 that Trevor Wilkinson re-bodied his old Alvis Firebird and built his first hand made “Special”and taking the initials TreVoR from his own name TVR was born. It was from such humble beginnings TVR would eventually grow to become the 3rd largest sports car manufacturer in the World! Over the next 60 years Blackpool would see the continuous production of some of the Worlds fastest, and most stunning, hand built sports cars from the earliest Grantura`s and Griffiths of the 50`s & 60`s, through to the ultra curvaceous Tuscan 2 and outrageous Sagaris in 2006. Sadly the spring of 2007 saw the final cars leave Bristol Avenue as TVR finally ceased production here in the UK and the company put up for sale. At the time of writing the future for this once proud marque lies in the hands of foreign investors and we can only hope that production of this iconic sports car name may re-start at some point in the not to distant future but I fear that, if and when it does, it will almost certainly no longer be based here in the UK. However on a happier note this website is exclusively dedicated to TVR models from an earlier era, it was in 1977/8 when TVR owner Martin Lilley, with an eye to the way car designs were changing, employed the ex - Lotus designer Oliver Winterbottom to style an all-new, contemporary shaped TVR for the 1980`s, with an all new welded tubular steel backbone chassis and suspension designed by Ian Jones, again ex-Lotus, and with a choice of 2 litre. straight 4 or 2.8 litre. V6 Ford power trains the Tasmin made its debut in January 1980 at the Belgian Motor Show and the “Wedge” was born. The development of the model continued unabated throughout the 1980`s with the 280i, Tasmin, 350i, 200, 350SE, SX350, SX400, the outrageously styled race inspired SEAC`s , 390SE & 400SE until the final versions were produced in 1990/91; with the powerful Rover V8 based 430SE & 450SE models. The Wedge cars went
out of production in 1991 to be replaced by the much more contemporary
looking, classically lined and curvaceous Griffith. Many consider Wedges as the ugly ducklings of the TVR range you either love the 80's retro angular aggressive styling or loathe it. Whatever you think about the shape, before you draw any conclusions please, get in one and drive it, I can absolutely guarantee as soon as the tidal wave of noise comes from the exhaust - you will be hooked. The
website is very much still under construction intended
to be fuelled by articles, reviews, ideas and tips that have been
contributed by Wedge owners for the benefit of other Wedge owners
(or marque enthusiasts). It
has grown over time and I intend to update the site as quickly as possible over the next few months,
it is important to bookmark this site and check back frequently to
see what has been added. If
you have some Wedge related news, an interesting article or Wedge
picture then please send it to me and I will do my best to get it
published on-line. If you would like to advertise on or sponsor this website to help keep it online, then please click HERE for more information. |
